Hello Letter to All Prospective Rectors

Welcome to All Saints’ Church Briarcliff Manor

All Saints’ Episcopal Church is a welcoming, affirming and inclusive church where we seek a deeper relationship with Christ through inspiring worship and music, loving fellowship, and compassionate outreach. Some have described our services as just on the “High Church” side of center. 100% of our members, through our recently completed parish survey, believe it is either important or very important that the parish make newcomers feel welcome. If one characteristic above all others defines All Saints’, it is our congregation’s desire to welcome, support, and encourage those who enter our sacred space.

All Saints’

We are a forward-looking church with an engaged congregation anticipating a fulfilling future. Basically, we know the future for All Saints’ will be different from its past, and we will need a plan to increase our relevancy in our community as well as in our congregation. Over the last two years we have embarked on an ambitious program, called Renewal Works, to look inward and assess our best path forward. Through Renewal Works we’re looking to build fellowship and spirituality by programs that combine aspects of both.

All Saints’ has always had an active and engaged congregation. Approximately 80% of those who filled out our survey are engaged in at least one ministry at the church. Also, many members of the church have completed or are enrolled in the Education for Ministry program.

For a small church, All Saints’ prides itself on a robust outreach program. We look to provide the most impact to our community and support programs such as the Tarrytown and Ossining Food Pantries, Loaves and Fishes, REPAIR (Rivertowns Episcopal Parishes Action on Inclusion and Race), and the ministry at Bedford Hills Correctional Facility for Women. For a list of all our outreach programs and ministries please see the outreach page of our website.

Music is also ingrained at All Saints’. Under the direction of our choir director, Colette Hebert, the choir is a strong, cohesive group that presents a wide array of music. We currently use the 1982 Hymnal, along with selections from “Lift Every Voice and Sing II.” The wonderful acoustic qualities of the church help the choir reach into the hearts and souls of the congregation.

Our History and Location

All Saints’ is located only 45 minutes from Manhattan in the Village of Briarcliff Manor in the lower Hudson Valley. The church was established in 1854 and is currently listed on the National Register of Historic Places.  For more information about Briarcliff Manor and our award-winning school district, please click the related links on the “Rector Search” tab on our website.

Our stone Gothic church combines beauty and tranquility and features a Tiffany stained-glass window. The space is ideal for putting troubled minds at rest and opening hearts to Christ’s teachings.

What We Seek in a Rector

We are looking for a gifted preacher, who fosters a welcoming and inclusive environment, with an eye toward empowering the personal ministries and faithful journeys of our congregation. We’re also looking for a rector who will help us increase our footprint in the community. We’re a smart enough bunch to know we don’t always get it right, and there’s more that we need to do to inspire our congregation and grow our members. We also know that a rector, no matter how inspiring, can’t do it all on his or her own, so we’re here to help. The best candidates will be able to point to examples at previous ministries of building consensus about changes in direction and detail for us how they have led by example.

Our Finances

Fiscal responsibility and sustainability are important to All Saints’. For 2019 we have 43 pledging units giving a total of $206,000. We have mostly kept a balanced budget over the past three years. Over that time, total income for the church has ranged from $263,000 to an estimated $300,000 for this year. In 2017 we had a budget surplus of approximately $22,500. In 2018 we had a deficit of $16,600 and this year we are expecting a surplus in excess of $35,000. The church has modest endowments and reserves for capital improvements that total approximately $225,000. For more detailed information about our finances, please click the “Financials” tab in the Rector Search section of our website.

All Saints’ Church is a special place in need of a quality rector who will lead us into the future. We are a welcoming place, strong on fellowship, where parishioners find solace and Christ during our troubling times. We have a long history but are willing to embrace a new future we optimistically believe is filled with promise.
